I would say looking into alternative packaging is necessary for a number of reasons - to reduce our environmental footprint and to reduce the amount of soiled wine which finds its way on to the market through factors such as cork taint for example. However, you wouldn't see a can of wine at my picnic - to my mind, this is definitely an occasion to pop open a bottle of something special and a can doesn't seem to hit the mark!
