Thanks for the Sagrantino recommendation Tim...I actually spent a week down there last Sept, visiting quite a few estates & surveying the region. The result? Duccio Pompili's Cantina Fontecolle lights my fire, with its focus on freshness & purity as opposed to the perceived wisdom of (lumpy) extract & alcohol..I urge you to try his unfined unfiltered unanything Montefalco Rosso 05 for drinking now & the Sagrantino di Montefalco 05 for the cellar.
ciao

David -

I do hope you manage to spread your wings and go further south than Piedmont or Tuscany.

If you make it Umbria call in at Cantina Tudernum (www.tudernum.it) in Todi.

They have managed to pick up some Decanter awards over the years but sadly no UK distributor.

Excellent blog. Now I know about it I shall follow your trip with great interest - although I wish it was me there rather than you!

Mark

PS. Very much enjoyed the dinner. Thank you.

Hi David,

I hope you can access this on your travels...

I see you are in Piemonte at the moment. It's been nearly three months and you haven't been to see us yet at Malvira!

Anyway, it seems that your trip is going well. A few friends and Di and myself will be having a get-together some time soon to enjoy the weather, food and wine. Not sure where or when as these things tend to be a bit ad hoc, but if you're interested let me know, as we usually end up drinking a few interesting bottles (not all of which are from Piemonte!) and eating well. My mobile number is 348 166 3798, my e-mail as above and my Skype address is evanbyrne2.

Even if you're not, come over to Canale at some point as there are a few producers worth a look and the restaurant at the Enoteca is reckoned by some to be the best in Piemonte.

Hope you are having fun in the Langhe and to hear from you soon!

Regards,

Evan.
